Puig des Molins Monographic Museum and Necropolis

Gods, rituals and customs on a fascinating journey to Phoenician Ibiza

Spark children's imagination, taking them back to the very origins of the city of Ibiza and showing them how its first inhabitants lived, is possible by visiting the Punic-Phoenician necropolis of Puig des Molins, the largest cemetery of its kind in the Mediterranean. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as part of the ‘Ibiza, biodiversity and culture’ project, it houses more than 3,000 tombs and hypogea, of which a small sample can be visited to learn about the different types, as well as the Monographic Museum, with a collection of funerary items, such as amulets, jewellery and ceramics. This exhibition space is one of the two sites of the Archaeological Museum of Ibiza, the institution that conserves, studies and exhibits the material remains of the historical past of the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. A tip: don't miss the children's workshops and archaeology workshops that the institution holds periodically.
