Four events held in Sant Antoni for the whole family
In the town of Sant Antoni and in the villages that make up the municipality, various events are held throughout the year for the fun and enjoyment of families, including the tasting of local culinary specialities and discovering some of the most unspoilt natural landscapes on the island. Here are some events to note in your diary.
Rural Sant Antoni
At the beginning of February, this day of open-air activities is held in the grounds of the Sant Antoni Agricultural Cooperative to showcase the farming traditions of the municipality, which is steeped in agricultural tradition.
Adults and children will have a great time thanks to a programme of fun-filled activities throughout the day: traditional dance demonstration, breakfast with bread, wine and sobrassada, photographic exhibition, obstacle courses, fancy dress competition, craft activities, traditional children's games, cart rides for the kids, torrada with a children's menu for the kids, Ibizan pastries, musical performances and entertaining themed sporting events, such as the Verro Olímpic, a race in teams of two adults who have to compete in fancy dress.
Corona Sofrit Pagès Competition
At the end of January or beginning of February this cooking competition is held in which the signature dish is sofrit pagès, a hearty winter dish made with different types of meat, potatoes, vegetables and typical Ibizan sausages, such as sobrassada and botifarró. The participants prepare the dish in their respective stalls, while a shared sofrit pagès is cooked and can be sampled by visitors to the event. The event is held in the picturesque surroundings of Pla de Corona, whose almond trees are usually in full bloom at this time of year.
World Arroz de Matanzas (Pig Slaughter Rice) Competition
On the first Saturday of February, this popular event takes place in the streets of the centre of Sant Antoni, where more than a hundred teams from all over the island compete to win the title of Champion of the World Arroz de Matanzas Competition. With various musical performances scattered throughout the streets and squares, the day has a highly festive atmosphere. Visitors can watch the teams prepare this dish made with pork, sobrassada and pebrassos (Lactarius deliciosus), a type of mushroom prized for its flavour, and sample this Ibizan speciality with a plate of the communal rice prepared for the occasion.
Guided Nordic Walking tours
From September to April, the Sant Antoni Town Council organises a number of guided Nordic walking tours, a form of hiking in which the walker uses walking poles, which are provided before the start of the tours. Open to everyone, they offer a great opportunity to enjoy the landscapes of the interior of the municipality while learning interesting facts about the region. This activity is offered once a month, usually on Saturdays or Sundays, and to take part you have to sign up at the tourist office.
