Try paddleboarding in Ibiza this summer!
Looking for something a little different to do on your family holiday in Ibiza this summer? Paddleboarding could easily become one of your favourite memories of the trip.
It is fun, simple to get the hang of, a brilliant way to enjoy the sea from a new angle and suitable for almost all ages.
Never tried it before? No problem. With a little practice, the right conditions and a calm stretch of water, you will soon be gliding over Ibiza’s crystal-clear sea.
Why paddleboarding is perfect for families

Paddleboarding, often called SUP (stand-up paddleboarding), is one of the best family activities to try in Ibiza.
It is great fun, of course, but it also helps children build balance, coordination and confidence on the water. Children tend to learn quickly and enjoy the challenge of staying upright whilst paddling, although they can also start out sitting or on their knees until they feel more confident.
The other good news is that you do not need any previous experience. Choose a sheltered spot, use the right equipment and follow a few basic tips, and you can start enjoying it straight away.
It is also a lovely way to explore the coastline at a relaxed pace, with views of the seabed, cliffs and little coves you cannot reach on foot.
The ideal conditions for beginners
If this is your first time, choosing the right place will make all the difference.
Sheltered bays, gentle waves and clear water create the perfect setting for beginners. They give you space to practise your first turns, get comfortable on the board and build confidence before trying a slightly longer route.
Early mornings are often best, when there is less wind and the sea tends to be at its calmest. Bring sun cream, water and a T-shirt or rash vest for extra protection from the sun.
For younger children, a life jacket is essential.
Explore Cala Vedella from the water

Cala Vedella is one of the best places on the island to learn, thanks to its sheltered bay, clear water and calm conditions.
It is home to Sup Yoga Ibiza / Paddle Surf Ibiza Center, a specialist school where complete beginners and more experienced paddlers can enjoy paddleboarding in a safe, welcoming setting.
Alongside beginner lessons, the team runs guided trips to sea caves, hidden coves and some of the most beautiful spots on Ibiza’s west coast. You can also book private sessions, group outings and sunset routes if you want to make the experience even more special.
The centre also offers storage for personal belongings and family-friendly extras such as snorkelling gear, balls, beach bats and volleyball nets, so you can make a full day of it by the sea.
More than a sport: a holiday memory in the making

Once you have the basics, paddleboarding is a wonderful way to see Ibiza from a different perspective.
You can paddle beside cliffs, look down into the clear water, stop for a swim or a spot of snorkelling, and enjoy a quieter side of the coast away from the beach.
And if someone in the family prefers a slower pace, many schools also offer SUP yoga, combining yoga poses on the board with the gentle movement of the sea.
It is a different way to connect with nature and enjoy the island from the water.
The best beaches in Ibiza for paddleboarding

There are plenty of beaches in Ibiza where you can try paddleboarding, but some are especially well suited to families and first-timers. If you are new to the sport, these five beaches (one in each municipality) are a great place to start.
Cala Vedella (Sant Josep de sa Talaia) is ideal for learning, with its protected bay and usually calm water. You will also find specialist schools here, including Sup Yoga Ibiza / Paddle Surf Ibiza Center, where you can hire equipment or book lessons and guided trips.
Talamanca Beach (Ibiza) is another easy option for families. The water is normally calm, the bay is wide and there is enough space to paddle at an unhurried pace, with plenty of facilities close by.
Cala Llonga (Santa Eulària des Riu) also offers ideal conditions for beginners. Its wide sandy beach, shallow seabed and sheltered setting make it a reassuring place to find your balance on the board.
In the north of the island, Cala Sant Vicent (Sant Joan de Labritja) is well worth considering. Its long beach and generally calm water make it suitable for practising safely, with beautiful scenery all around.
Cala Salada (Sant Antoni de Portmany) is perfect for combining paddleboarding with swims in clear water and little coastal adventures. When the sea is calm, it is a lovely spot to keep improving your technique while enjoying the surroundings.
Wherever you go, check the sea conditions before you set off and choose a route that works for everyone in the family. Do that, and paddleboarding could become one of the standout family activities of your Ibiza holiday.
