Sant Josep Salt Fair (Fira de la Sal): Ibiza’s heritage, culture and flavours
Each October, Sant Josep de sa Talaia hosts its much-loved Salt Fair, celebrating one of Ibiza’s most distinctive treasures: the salt harvested from the island’s historic salt flats. It is a day that brings together local tradition, heritage, food and family-friendly activities in a lively setting with an unmistakably Ibizan feel.
During the fair, visitors and residents can discover the role salt has played in Ibiza’s history through exhibitions, demonstrations, guided walks, craft stalls and cultural events. There is plenty for children too, including workshops, games and educational activities designed to bring the island’s natural heritage to life in an enjoyable, hands-on way.
Food is a key part of the experience, with tastings and dishes made using local ingredients, placing Ibiza’s salt at the heart of the menu. The programme often also features live music, traditional dance and performances that bring extra atmosphere to the streets.
The Salt Fair is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a day out with the family, learn about Ibiza’s roots and discover one of the island’s most unique landscapes at one of the loveliest times of year. A must for anyone visiting Ibiza in autumn.
